Symptom #8: Frequent Illness

Our bodies are protected 24/7 against pathogens by our immune system. For the most part, it does a very good job and most of us will not fall ill too often. Our immune system is not invincible, however, and we can fall ill from time to time. Some people can fall ill more often than others, though.

Cortisol has the effect of inhibiting the functioning of the immune system. This means we become less effective at protecting ourselves and we become ill more often as a result. People with high cortisol levels are likely to get colds more often, while infections can also become more frequent.
