Symptom #10: Lightheadedness and Syncope
Lightheadedness is a common and nonspecific symptom where the affected individual experiences dizziness and may faint. It can be a prolonged or short-lived sensation. The person may also feel that their head is weightless or that their surroundings are spinning. Since most cases are not serious, most lightheadedness resolves on its own. It can be caused by oxygen or blood shortage due to dehydration, drop in blood pressure, fever, and anemia.
Syncope occurs when one loses muscle strength and consciousness. This also occurs when there is decreased blood or oxygen flow to the brain. Both lightheadedness and syncope can be seen in septicemia, especially when the patient is going into shock.
