Symptom #5: Pruritus
Pruritus is a medical term defined as a sensation that causes the reflex or desire to scratch. It is an unpleasant sensory experience if it becomes persistent. It is a non-specific symptom that can be caused by allergic reactions, parasitic infections, insect bites, lice, scabies, shaving, skin disorders, diabetes, and viral infections (such as erythema infectiosum).
Pruritus can be treated or managed using antihistamines, corticosteroids, counterirritants, and local anesthetics.
