9. When To Take Melatonin
For most individuals, melatonin should be taken right before bedtime or a few hours before. If you’re taking this supplement before surgery, take it approximately 60 to 90 minutes before, but only at the recommendation of your doctor.
Long-term use of melatonin before bedtime may affect your natural hormone production. Always consult a doctor if your sleep symptoms worsen, change or if you need to take this supplement for longer than nine months.
