Some side effects are short term and relatively harmless. Of course, always consult your doctor if you’re concerned with side effects and don’t use melatonin again until you speak with your doctor. Some side effects you may experience include drowsiness, nausea, headaches and dizziness.
Rare side effects include irritability, mild anxiety, mild tremor, short-term feelings of depression, abdominal cramps, reduced alertness, low blood pressure, confusion and disorientation. Talk to your doctor immediately if you have any of these symptoms.
Individuals with an autoimmune disease shouldn’t take melatonin unless approved by a doctor. After taking this supplement, don’t drive a vehicle or operate machinery within five hours.
