Cause #8: Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura
The thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura is a condition that is characterized by a clotting of the thromboses, which are the small blood vessels of the body. This clotting abnormality instantly leads to a lower level of platelets and thrombocytopenia. The thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura may affect any organ within the body, but as soon as it affects the kidneys, peripheral blood system, or the nervous system, symptoms begin to appear and are similar to the symptoms present in thrombocytopenia. Treatment usually requires a plasma exchange with fresh frozen plasma.
