Cause #10: Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome

Hemolytic uremic syndrome is associated with thrombocytopenia and hemolytic anemia, caused by the renal failure that comes with this syndrome. It can affect children as well as adults but is most common in children. It used to be confused with thrombocytopenia until it was discovered that it´s a disease on its own. Its cause usually lays in an infection, such as an Escherichia coli infection. These bacteria release toxins that lead to abnormalities within the body. It is a serious condition but well treated if diagnosed in a timely manner.
