2. Indications and Contraindications
ECG has been proven to be a useful diagnostic test and is routinely used to evaluate patients suspected of a heart attack (infarction), myocardial (heart muscle) injury, ischemia, drug toxicity, implanted pacemakers or defibrillators, and electrolyte abnormalities. It is often used due to its ability to diagnose cardiovascular disease. It can also be used to assess the side effects of medications, metabolic disorders, and more. There are no absolute contraindications for the ECG except for patient refusal. There are some individuals who may have sensitivities or allergies to the adhesive used to attach the leads to the skin. In these cases, there are alternatives that are hypoallergenic from various manufacturers.
