8. How Is BPV Diagnosed?

If you are experiencing occasional vertigo but are not sure if it is because of BPV, a doctor can help diagnose the problem. One test is performed using infrared goggles. A doctor may examine your head and eyes, asking if dizziness occurs as a result of certain movements. In attempting to make the diagnosis, your doctor may wish to see if you have control over your eye movements. This can be done by having you lie on a table with your head tilted back and hanging off of it. The doctor will then ask you to move your eyes in certain ways.
