4. How Did BPV Get Its Name?
BPV is called “benign” because it is not a serious or life-threatening condition. It is called “paroxysmal” because of its sudden and brief occurrence. It is called “positional” because it is triggered by a change in your head’s position. BPV is usually not considered a major health problem unless it occurs frequently enough to affect your quality of life. In some cases, the vertigo can be so severe that the person experiencing it falls over and hurts themselves, and in these instances, BPV can be dangerous. Thankfully, it can be easily treated in a doctor’s office.
