There is not usually a need to prepare before the procedure, but you might sometimes be asked to fast for 24 hours or so beforehand. If you are then you should take a snack with you because you are likely to be hungry when the procedure is over.

The test will only require a fairly small amount of blood, so you should not experience any side-effects from the procedure. Some patients might feel a little sore at the point where the needle was inserted, but that should not last for long. It is a good idea to leave the bandage in place to help prevent an infection, no matter how small the wound might be.
