6. Triglycerides

When we take on more calories than we burn off, the excess energy gets converted into fat so it can be stored on the body for use later. This is what causes people to become obese if they continue to consume more calories than they use. When energy is needed again, chemicals are released that allow the body to use energy from the fat stores.

The type of fat that is stored in this way is known as triglycerides. High levels of these in the blood are associated with conditions like obesity, consuming too much sugar, smoking, and alcohol. High levels of triglycerides are not good for us, and a lipid panel test will help to measure just how high the levels of these fats are.
