4. (HDL) Cholesterol

One thing that a lipid panel test will check for is high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels. These are the ‘good’ cholesterols and it is good to have HDL levels above a certain number. One of the main reasons that these cholesterols are good is that they help to reduce the level of ‘bad’ cholesterols.

As they flow through the blood, they will help to remove any bad cholesterols they encounter. If there were too few of these good cholesterols then there would not be enough to keep levels of the bad variety in check. This is why it is a good idea to maintain certain levels of them in the body.
