Symptom #8: Difficulty Swallowing
If the pharyngitis is so bad that it causes difficulty swallowing, then chances are the pharyngitis is due to some sort of illness or condition. Many conditions can cause an extremely painful sore throat, but one of the commonest causes is strep throat.
Strep throat might also lead to a number of other symptoms in addition to a sore throat. Strep throat can cause the throat to develop white or gray patches. The lymph nodes may also swell up like they do from mono. People with strep throat are also more likely to experience a fever and chills.
