Another symptom that might emerge is coughing. Depending on the type of illness that led to the problem, it may be a dry or wet cough. Issues like bronchitis, common colds, and other respiratory illnesses can all lead to sore throats as well as coughs.

Dry coughs are characterized by an itchy feeling in the throat that may or may not subside after coughing. During a dry cough, the body does not produce or expel any mucus.
