Technique #3: Progressive Muscle Relaxation
One potential cause of stress is tension in the muscles. Hence, if you can fully relax your muscles then you are going a long way toward relaxing yourself mentally as well. One way that you can achieve this is through progressive muscle relaxation.
To use progressive muscle relaxation, start by breathing in slowly as you tense a particular group of muscles. Then, as you slowly breathe out again, relax the muscles that you had tensed. Repeat this for each set of muscles in the body. It has been shown that this method can help reduce blood pressure and lower your heart rate.
