9. Diseases of the Lymphatic System - Lymphadenopathy

Lymphadenopathy occurs when there is one or more lymph nodes that are abnormal in terms of size or consistency. Lymphadenopathy can occur when there Is inflammation or infection. This is known as local lymphadenopathy. Generalized lymphadenopathy occurs when many lymph nodes in various body parts are affected.

It can be caused by systemic infections such as tuberculosis, cancers, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections, infectious mononucleosis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), rheumatoid arthritis, and more. Lymphadenopathy is a nonspecific sign and can be classified based on size, extent, and localization.
