Treatment #2: Ringworm on the Scalp

Treatment for tinea capitis (ringworm on the scalp) is more complicated as it requires prescription antifungal medication that has to be taken orally for approximately four to twelve weeks.

Topical antifungals cannot be used for treatment in tinea capitis as they do not penetrate hair and therefore requires systemic therapy. Some of the prescription antifungal medication that is used to treat tinea capitis include terbinafine, itraconazole, griseofulvin and fluconazole.
