Inflammation of the Tongue
Geographic tongue usually becomes pronounced during periods of inflammation. Although the geographic tongue is benign, as the tongue becomes inflamed, sensitivity to foods and liquids increases. A bland diet and cool liquids can help during times of inflammation.
