Lidocaine Side Effect #7: Constipation
There is usually a lot more going on in the digestive tract than we care to think. In addition to digestive juices helping to break down our food, there are also muscles at work helping to push the food along. This helps it move at just the right rate, but constipation can occur if things slow down too much.
Using lidocaine can cause the movement of food through the stomach to slow down. This can cause more water than usual to be extracted from it and this can result in very dry and hard stools. Constipation will usually pass, although you should speak with a doctor if the symptoms persist.
