Lidocaine Side Effect #10: Anaphylaxis
Allergies occur when the body identifies harmless compounds and items as things that can be harmful to the body. If an allergen is detected, the body will react to try and expel the allergen or make sure it is harmless in some other way. Allergic reactions are usually uncomfortable but harmless, although others can be very serious.
Lidocaine can cause anaphylaxis in rare cases. This is an extreme allergic reaction and the patient may go into an anaphylactic shock. This should be treated as an immediate medical emergency as the patient’s life could be in danger. People with known allergies should always be careful when using treatments such as lidocaine.
