10 Symptoms of Jaundice

Our red blood cells have a limited lifespan. Once their time is up, they need to be processed to make way for new blood cells. This is done in the liver, and the process produces a substance known as bilirubin. Bilirubin is also usually processed in the liver, meaning we usually find very little of it in our bloodstream.
Sometimes, though, something can go wrong and cause the levels of bilirubin in the bloodstream to rise. This is often down to problems directly with the liver; however, it can also mean problems with other organs, such as the gallbladder.
Although jaundice is not necessarily dangerous per se, it can be a sign of something quite serious.

Symptom #1: Yellow Skin
The color of the skin is often quite a giveaway in regard to people’s health, and it can be a strong symptom of various illnesses. If your skin has turned unusually yellow in color, it could be that you have jaundice.
Jaundice turns people yellow because that is the color of the bilirubin that’s causing it. In some cases, it may cause the patient to become a darker orange in color. In people with naturally darker skin, the yellow pigment may be more noticeable in the eyeballs.
