Symptom #2: Itchiness
Itching can be caused by a wide range of things. Most of the time, it is a response to a stimulus on the skin to make you aware that something is there that shouldn’t be. At other times, it is a reaction to something causing an adverse effect inside the body. In the case of jaundice, the problem causing the itching is internal.
With higher than usual levels of bilirubin just below the surface of the skin, the skin can become irritated. This causes us to feel itchy and scratching an itch can be very difficult to resist. Remember, though, to try limiting any scratching because you might cause damage to your skin.
