Possible Ileus Complications
Complications from untreated ileus are serious and must be treated as medical emergencies. Because of the inability of the bowel to absorb nutrients and water correctly, dehydration and electrolyte imbalance may occur. In this case, the physician may order the administration of IV fluids containing electrolytes.
