6. Treatment
Treatment plans for Pickwickian syndrome are used to relieve the symptoms. PAP therapy (positive airway pressure therapy) is the most common treatment for respiratory problems due to OHS. A device called a PAP machine is used to provide the patient with oxygen through an attached tube with a mask covering the nose and mouth. PAP therapy is effective in treating sleep apnea and improving sleep patterns and quality. A ventilator may also be used for consistent breathing, especially for people who cannot breathe regularly. The ventilator provides oxygen and helps the patient to get rid of CO2.
