5. Diagnosis
There are three methods used to find out if a patient has Pickwickian syndrome or not. The first is the body mass index. A measurement of over 30 kg per m2 means that the person is obese. Another diagnosis method involves testing the level of carbon dioxide in the arteries by measuring the arterial blood gas. A measurement higher than 45 mmHg or 6.0 kPa indicates the presence of Pickwickian syndrome. A test known as polysomnography may be needed to confirm the diagnosis.
