Symptom #4: Rashes
Rashes are often a sign that something is irritating the skin externally, although it can also be a sign of an internal infection. Because it could possibly be an indicator of something quite serious, it is wise to see a doctor if you are unsure of the cause. Rashes are also a common symptom of chikungunya.
The rash associated with chikungunya is typically red and raised slightly from the skin. It can also cause hyperpigmentation which is darker patches like freckles appearing on the skin. Chikungunya can also cause the skin to peel, while mouth ulcers are also possible. These symptoms are likely to go away naturally but rashes should never be treated complacently.
