Symptom #10: Eye Damage
Our eyes are very sensitive and very delicate, but thankfully they are well protected physically by our skulls. The skull is not able to protect them from pathogens, though, so they are at risk of a pathogen if not dealt with by the immune system. The chikungunya virus can cause an inflammation of the eye and this can lead to permanent damage.
In cases of chikungunya, the patient is likely to experience a sensitivity to the light and the eyes are likely to turn red. Treatments are available for the condition and, if treated in time, there is a reasonable chance that no lasting damage will be done.
