Symptom #7: Loss of Contrast Sensitivity
Contrast is the variance in color or luminance. In the real world, contrast is determined by the difference in brightness and color of different objects in the same field of view. Contrast sensitivity is the ability to distinguish between the different levels of luminance in a static image.
It varies for every individual and reaches its peak at about age twenty. It can also decline with age or because of other issues, such as diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, and macular degeneration. A loss in contrast sensitivity can result in decreased visual function despite having normal visual acuity.
