2. Romeo and Juliet

Irony can also be found throughout some of our most treasured literary works, including one of the most famous love stories of all time: Romeo and Juliet, the Shakespeare classic. The part of the story in question is also one of the most famous love scenes in all literature throughout history. In the story, Romeo find his sweetheart sleeping after being drugged.

He mistakenly thinks that she is dead and, stricken with grief, he chooses to take his own life. After Romeo has died, Juliet wakens from her sleep and, seeing that her sweetheart is dead, she chooses to take her life also.
