Cato is a name that might be familiar to history scholars. Cato was the name of a politician that directly opposed Julius Caesar in the days of Ancient Rome. In Latin, the word means “Wise,” which is a very favorable name to give to any child.

The name Cato is also very rare. In the US, only around 7 babies are given the name per every 1 million of the population. It peaked in 1891, when around 79 in every 1 million babies were being given the name. It has never been in the top 1,000, although it has seen a surge in popularity in recent years.
