There are numerous things that might cause the skin to become flaky. Friction against clothing can cause damage to skin, while there are also skin conditions such as dermatitis that can cause a problem. Such symptoms in the nipple area are often dismissed as a skin condition, although they can be a sign of something more serious.
Flaking skin is a symptom of Paget’s disease. Patient’s will also sometimes describe it as being scaly and not nearly as smooth as the skin in that area usually would be. These symptoms should be enough to encourage you to make an appointment to have it investigated.
