Mankind is made of very creative beings. We like to construct objects and draw paintings using a range of materials. Some of us are not so good, struggling to create anything at all impressive. Others, though, have exceptional skills and can create masterpieces that will have viewers mesmerized.
Many famous pieces of art have been produced throughout history. Some are so famous that they are almost household names despite having been completed hundreds of years ago. Most are held in public galleries around the world where visitors can view them. Here’s a look at some of the most famous paintings of all time.
Famous Painting #1: Guernica
Completed in 1937, Guernica is among the most famous paintings by Picasso, who is one of the best-known artists in all of history. It was created on canvas using a range of greys, blacks and whites and is widely considered to be one of the finest ever paintings that contains an anti-war message.
During the Spanish civil war, the Spanish city of Guernica was heavily bombed from the air. Picasso’s painting depicts this bombing, which was particularly controversial because civilians were targeted. The painting was made by Picasso in Paris and can be seen displayed in Spain’s Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid.
