In some cases, the bacterium will also manage to infect the rectum. This usually happens in people that have participated in anal sex. The rectum is the final part of the digestive system before feces is passed out of the body through the anus. In many cases, chlamydia infecting the rectum will cause no pain or other symptoms whatsoever. In other cases, however, it can lead to pain in the rectum area. It will also sometimes cause itchiness in the patient’s anus.
