Is Bigfoot Real?
There are countless myths in the world, with each culture having myths of their own. These myths often involve mystical and even magical creatures. They can be good or evil, and some have people terrified at the thought of encountering one lest they fall prey to its wicked ways.
Some myths are easier to believe than others, and Bigfoot arguably falls into the category. Bigfoot is supposedly a large ape-like creature that has so far managed to avoid capture. There have been countless alleged sightings of bigfoot but nobody has yet come forth with solid evidence of its existence. Here’s a look at some of the most notable claims of sightings.
1. Marble Mountain
Marble Mountain is located in the Northwest of California. In June 2001, a youth group known as “campus life” were visiting the woods. The group’s leader, Jim Mills, was filming at the time and managed to capture video of what many believe to be Bigfoot himself.
The images are not clear because the video was shot from long distance as the alleged Bigfoot was spotted on far away ridge. Despite this, it is still clear to see a creature that did not appear to be human. Just before spotting the creature on the ridge, an apparent den was found made from branches and leaves.
2. Ketchikan, Alaska
Alaska is well known for its vast wildernesses. If there was any place on Earth that would be ideal for large, secretive creatures, Alaska would be it. On May 10, 2011, a video was uploaded onto YouTube that allegedly shows Bigfoot walking through a forest. It is not clear to see exactly what was being filmed.
The camera was shaky and there was a lot of foliage in the way but you can just about make out an ape-like being in the short clip. Was it really Bigfoot, a hoax, or something else? The answer to that question is likely to remain a mystery for a very long time.
3. Siberia
The American continent is not the only place that Bigfoot sightings are supposed to have occurred. Indeed, there have been many reports of Bigfoot sightings coming from Siberia. Similar to Alaska, Siberia is an area that has vast wildernesses, making it ideal Bigfoot territory.
In 2009, a documentary on Bigfoot was being made by a Russian crew in the area. This documentary became very well known to people searching for the creature because of a short video allegedly showing a Bigfoot walking. The region still gets regular reports of sightings to this day, but no concrete evidence has been provided yet.
4. Prince Edward Island
Prince Edward Island in Canada has been the site of another purported Bigfoot sighting that was caught on camera. Two students were on the island in a wooded area with a clearing and were filming a segment for a homemade movie.
As one of the two students was running through the clearing to make the shot, something was caught in the background. What appeared to be an ape-like creature emerged from the woods and ran across the clearing into a wooded area on the other side. Many people are convinced that it was Bigfoot, but it is all but impossible to be sure.
5. Washington 911
If you have an emergency and need assistance, one of the first things you should do is to call 911. In Washington in the mid-1900s, a man made a call to 911 claiming that there was a large person in their yard. The caller explained how the “person” appeared to be all black, and he was not sure it was even a person at all.
Was this Bigfoot? Who knows! There is a chance that it was just a very large person, or that the call was a hoax. Police did turn up on the scene only to find that there was no evidence of anything unusual. A dog was killed in the area around the time but nobody was able to determine what had killed it.
6. Provo Canyon
It is thought that a lot of supposed Bigfoot sightings are actually just other animals, with bears being among the most common suspects. On October 30, 2012, two campers were in Provo Canyon, Utah, filming what they thought was a bear. According to many, what they were filming was not a bear at all.
The footage clearly shows that the creature stood up and looked directly at them through the brush. While bears are able to stand up, the creature didn’t seem to have the same body shape as a bear. It is difficult to be sure through the brush, and the campers ran away as soon as they saw the creature stand up.
7. Blue Mountains
Some people have dedicated much of their lives to getting solid evidence that Bigfoot exists. One such person was an American by the name of Paul Freeman. Unfortunately, Paul died in 2003, but not before he was able to catch some footage of what many believe to be Bigfoot.
The video was shot in 1994. While some are convinced the video really is Bigfoot, many more are unconvinced, largely due to the poor quality of the images. In addition to the video, Paul had also taken some plaster casts of what he claimed to be Bigfoot fingerprints. Again, while some have taken them seriously, many more have not.
8. Ontario
Bigfoot is usually considered to be a large ape-like animal, more gorilla-like than monkey-like and, as such, more likely to be found walking than swinging in the trees. Having never actually found one to examine, however, we can’t be completely sure of what Bigfoot is, if it exists, of course.
In 2010, a video was uploaded to YouTube that appears to be nothing but trees at first. On closer inspection, however, there appear to be a number of Bigfoots swinging through the trees. There certainly does appear to be something moving through the trees, but it is difficult to be sure just what it is.
9. France 2013
In 2013, a French family were camping and doing other activities in woods in Corsica. Noticing something moving in the tress, the father grabbed the camera and started filming. He was able to capture footage that many people believe to be Bigfoot himself.
The event shook up the whole family and you can hear the father trying to calm down the children. Then, something ape-like appeared to move in the trees. It then let out a roar, which appeared to terrify the children. Was it a hoax? Possibly, but the children did appear to be genuinely scared. We may never find out if the video was genuine or not.
10. The Patterson Film
The Patterson film is perhaps the best known of all Bigfoot sightings. It has been intensively studied over the years but nobody has been able to verify its accuracy. Filmed in 1967, the technology available at the time was very limited in comparison to today’s cameras, meaning the quality was very grainy.
Regardless of the video quality, the clip clearly showed an ape-like creature crossing over a creek. At one point, the creature even turns its head and looks directly at the camera in what is perhaps the most iconic Bigfoot image of all time. Critics say it was likely just a person in a suit, but nobody has been able to successfully debunk the video.
