Largest Dog Breed #9: Great Pyrenees
As the name suggests, the great Pyrenees was originally bred in the region of the Pyrenees Mountains. They are a very old breed and are thought to have been working alongside man for thousands of years. They originally helped to protect the flocks against wild predators such as bears and wolves. They were also protecting the farmer and his property.
While they are loyal and fearless protectors of their territory, they also have a wonderful temperament around their families. They are known to be faithful and great with kids as well as strangers, especially if they have been socialised from a young age. Weighing in at around 59 kg, however, they are a lot of dog to take care of. They need plenty of exercise, and should only be considered if you can give them the time and energy they need to stay happy and healthy.
